Every Labor Day weekend, LGBT folks and their allies travel to New Orleans to the biggest gay party in the South. Southern Decadence traces its roots back to 1972 where about 50 friends started the now world famous celebration. Today, the event has grown immensely and it is estimated that there are now over 300,000 attendees. The events of the weekend span from the Thursday before Labor Day and culminate on Labor Day Monday.
The main event of the weekend is the Decadence parade which occurs every year on Sunday afternoon. Besides the parade, there are plenty of fantastic events happening in the French Quarter and throughout the city to help make the most of your Decadence experience. You can be assured that the gay bars will be filled with cute patrons and have unforgettable parties. For a list of LGBT bars in our city click here.
